Are Authority Internet Sites A Lot Better Than Mini Web-sites?
The argument over whether mini sites or authority sites are a better option has been raging for some years now. However, Google seems to have the final say in the outcome of this type of debate. It seems that mini sites no longer enjoy the favor with Google they once had. In the last few algorithm changes, though, the larger content rich sites seemed to have gained favor over the mini sites. We can understand Google’s attitude about wanting to provide better search results for their visitors. Yet even a mini site can still offer positive results in your marketing efforts.
Many marketers prefer to work within a tightly focused segment of the market known as a niche. There’s nothing wrong with that at all. This thin slice of the market is known in some circles as a micro-niche. It is in these segments of marketers that mini sites dominate and thrive. With the latter, you can target just one or two main keyword phrases very easily and often rank very well in a short time. Of course that also depends on the competition for those keywords. To be fair, you can also target the same micro-niche within an authority site. If this isn’t appealing to you though a mini site remains a solid choice. This decision can be explored from many angles. It is possible to have ten mini sites along with one rather large authority site. But how do you get traffic to them all? You will need to duplicate your traffic building efforts times ten for the collection of mini sites. The larger authority site will also require time and attention for driving traffic. But with an authority site you can target different pages within the one site. So what you have with the authority site, which is larger of course, is the element of time leveraging. There’s also what is known as a “stickiness” value associated with larger sites. Since the content on mini sites is so limited it is difficult to make them very “sticky.”
You’ll find that it is much easier (and faster) to build credibility with an authority site. Large websites that are filled with helpful information are more authoritative to visitors. The larger sites simply invite the assumption of authority for many people. For some people, this is all that is needed for credibility to be established. This would be a rare exception to the rule for mini sites. That doesn’t mean it never happens only that it happens rarely.
A lot of marketers wrestle with the question of going with minisites or an authority site, or two. You will see this type of debate between people of very little experience in online marketing. Different things appeal to different people for all kinds of reasons. So we always recommend people do what interests them the most. But no matter what, you will benefit from learning as much as possible about both authority and mini sites.
